June Grading 2014

A massive ‘well done’ to our 10 students who participated in June grading – all of you performed well and made the club proud. Now it is time to get ready for the next one!

Hope to see you all in Summer School!

Summer Ball 2014

Last weekend the Club hosted its annual Summer Ball to celebrate the end of the year. A massive thanks goes to all the beautiful people who came and made it into a great experience, with some fantastic dancing and food – not to mention a really entertaining game which made us laugh and gave us the opportunity to know each others a bit better.

After the dinner, a moment was dedicated to the delivery of some awards. The members of the past year’s committee received a recognition for obtaining a Gold Award for the Club once again, while an individual Silver award went to Sheldon Yan for his admirable achievements in this year’s BSTF competition. Furthermore, Samira Parhizkar received the Club award in recognition of her excellent service over the past year.

Thank you once more for coming and turn this night into a memorable experience!

Alumni Games 2014

On Sunday, June 8th, the University of Nottingham Taekwondo Club was engaged in yet another round of the Alumni Games, an annual opportunity for the Student Team to prove itself against the club’s Alumni. Both sides competed at the best of their ability and proved their value in a series of different challenges, which ended with a score of 4-3, marking the Alumni’s victory.

The Games had the two teams confronting each other in five rounds of patterns (Poomsae) events – Team, Male/Female Individuals, Pairs and Triples – and in a series of exciting sparring (Kyorugi) matches.

The Student team was determined to double last year’s result, and started with a series of great performances in both Team and Male Individual Poomsae, reaching a vantage of 2-1 on the Alumni. Pairs and Triples followed closely, and once more the Students managed to stay ahead, prevailing in the Triples challenge; the score went up to 3-2, with the Alumni winning Pairs Poomsae.

Sparring is the specialty of the Alumni Team, where their experience and skills always work as great advantages. After all of Male/Female matches, the Alumni had sprinted on top, winning the competition with an overall score of 4-3. A victory, but still a hard-won one!

A big ‘thank you’ goes to whoever took part in the Games and made them possible. It is always a fantastic experience, worth the effort and the extra training, not to mention an extremely rewarding opportunity for everybody in the club.

The Alumni are now back on top with a 2-1 overall result, but the Games will be back same time next year – and the Students are still determined to win!
